When Worlds Collide
Part II Another Side, Another Story
Chapter I “The Silence is Broken”
The land had been covered in a veil of silence. Not a single animal made a noise; not even the wind blew. The seas had grown still. Not a rock moved in its place. All was quiet. After some time, the blinding dust that covered the surroundings settled, and now the landscape was finally visible. The city that was once full of people and machines working, with all the hustle and bustle, was now silent. Still, now that sight had been restored, nothing seemed to be moving. A short distance away, up on a cliff, high above the silent city, there was finally some movement. Footsteps, boots on the gravel. A figure walked up to the peak of the cliff. After a moment of taking in his surroundings, he spoke these words: “It is finished.”

Chapter II “A Revelation”
A new person stood on the summit, along with the man; this one was a woman. “Wow. They really took a hit, huh?” she asked him. “Hey, Wake up! You there? Snap out of it!” she told him, while she waved her hand in front of his face, trying to get his attention. Now, a much larger hand touched his shoulder. “Yo! Wake up, man!” He finally came to his senses. “Huh? Oh, sorry. Got lost in thought.” “What about?” the brunette woman asked. “Everything. How life used to be. How it will be now. The final battle. And on top of it all, this.” the blonde man said, as he pointed at the fallen city. “Forget about it, man.” the big guy told him. “You think too much. We’ll figure this one out. For now, I think we should go in and see what’s left of Midgar.” “You’re right.” he said, as he turned toward the other man, revealing his mysterious blue eyes. It was Cloud.

Chapter III “To the Land Down Under”
“You think anyone survived?” Tifa asked, while the three heroes searched the remains of the Upper City. “Up here? No. Down in the slums? Possibly.” Cloud informed, kicking aside some rubble. “It’s over for Shinra. Look.” Barret spoke, as he points at the skyscraper that once served as the headquarters for Shinra, Inc. It now seemed so unstable, that the windowless, twisted building would fall if one piece of grain were added to the weight. “Wouldn’t want to be in there when it falls.” he informed the group. “Where’s Cid at?” Cloud wondered. “In the Highwind, I guess. Said he had something to take care of.” Tifa told him. “Oh no…” Tifa exerted, as she gazed horridly at the ex-Shinra Building. “Wha…It’s happening, Barret.” Cloud said, as he too had a fixed gaze at the building, as it tipped over. “Brace yourselves!” Barret yelled, as he gets into a defensive stance, so the shock waves wouldn’t hit him too hard. Cloud and Tifa did the same. The building came crashing down. When it hit the ground, the twisted hunk of metal shattered, sending pieces everywhere, from shards of metal to whole walls stabbing the surface of the roads. “Tifa! Look out!” Cloud yelled, as he jumped in the way of a rocketing chunk of metal, and blocked it with the Buster Sword. “Thank you, Cloud.” Tifa said. “H-Hey. Look.” she told the men, pointing ahead, near where the top of the old building lied. “Is that…an opening? I think we can get to the Slums from there. Let’s check it out.” The three walked up to the hole, which sure enough, led to the Slums. Barret looked around grimly. “Looks like no one made it up here. Let’s go.”

Chapter IV “The Search”
“Man, they really took a bad hit down here too.” Cloud said, as he stepped on the ground. Barret slid down the pole, followed by Tifa. “It sure has been a while. The Wall Market sure has changed.” Tifa spoke sadly. “We should start searching for survivors.” Barret said. The team split up. Cloud took the North Side. Tifa headed for the South Side. Barret searched Central Wall Market. Cloud ran toward the mansion. He kicked open the door, half expecting either something to jump out at him, or for the whole building to fall on him. Regardless, he knew he must carry on. He entered the mansion, and yelled, “Is anyone here?!” But there was no answer. It seemed still. He ran up the steps, and checked the first room. “It looks almost the same, its so messy.” he thought aloud. Upon entering the Office, Cloud first noticed the bronze statues were tipped over. Then he saw the desk was broken in two. The bedroom was empty, other than having everything thrown everywhere. He started down the steps to the basement, and yelled for anyone. This time there was a response, “Help!” “I’m coming!” Cloud yelled, as he ran down the stairs. At the bottom, he realized why the boy needed help. All of the equipment and counters had fallen, and he was trapped, locked in the cage, hanging above. “How’d you get in there?” Cloud asked the boy. “I got scared and ran down here. When the stuff fell, I jumped on the table, and then it flipped and flung me in here.” “Hold on. I’ll get you down in a second.” Cloud reassured the kid. He drew the Buster Sword, jumped in the air, and cut the chain to the cage, sending it to the ground, and upon impact, it opened. “Gee, thanks, Mister!” he told Cloud. “Don’t mention it.” he replied, as he sheathed his sword. “Now, let’s get you out of here.” Barret entered the bar, it was empty. Tables and chairs were laying everywhere. The weapon shop appeared to have been dealt the same fate. All of the machines that were once lying around, were now sticking out of the buildings, and lying in the roads. He entered the gym, and found someone clinging to life. It was a man, impaled by one of the machines. “H-hey. H-have you s-seen my family?” the man asked, stuttering, obviously from weakness from the wound. “No, but there are two others searching. What do they look like?” Barret spoke, as he knelt next to the man. “M-my wife…a blonde. My son…a brown-haired k-kid.” “I’ll look for them.” Barret promised. “Tha-thank y-you.” he said, and died. “Is anyone there?” Tifa yelled, as she ran around. Clothes were all over the store. The food tent had fallen over. The roof of the house was now on the floor. Bottles were spread all over the floor of the pharmacy. The weapon in the item tent was now on the floor. The inn was totally wiped out. Tifa ran into the Honey Bee Inn. “Hello? Is anyone here?” she yelled. “Yes?” a woman replied. The voice was in the direction of the makeup room. So Tifa followed it. The door was jammed. “Step away from the door!” she yelled. She reared back, and came at the door with a punch so hard, it shattered. The blonde woman was sitting right next to the shards from the door. “Let’s get you out of here.” Tifa told her. “Have you seen my family?” she asked. “I’m sorry, I haven’t seen anyone. But there are two others who are looking. What does your family look like?” “My husband has black hair. My son is a brown haired boy.” “Well, come on, let’s see what they’ve found.” Tifa told her, as she walked with her to the entrance of the Wall Market. Cloud walked up with the little boy on his shoulders. “Mama!” the kid yelled, as he hopped off of Cloud’s shoulders, and ran to the woman. “Oh, Jake, you’re ok!” she said, crying, as she embraced her son. Cloud and Tifa looked at each other softly in this tender moment, but it was interrupted. Barret walked towards the group, with an unusual look. His head was hanging down. “Barret, what’s wrong?” Cloud asked him. “He…he died. Right in front of me. I promised I’d find his family, but, I couldn’t find ‘em.” he said sadly. He finally looked up at Cloud, and saw the mother and child behind Cloud. “Hey! You guys found ‘em! Great!” “Wait. Did either of you two men see my husband?” the mother asked. “’Fraid so.” Barret told her. “He died, trying to find y’all. Got hit by one of those machines. I’m sorry.” “Oh…Oh no.” she said, crying. “Let’s get out of here. We still gotta check out Sector 6.” Cloud informed the group.

Chapter V “The Mystery Man”
The five people entered the ruins of Sector 6. “Ok,” Cloud told the mother and son. “You two go that way, walk past the church, and you’ll see a big door. Go through it, and head for Kalm. There are people there who will help you out.” They left, and headed for the exit. After the mother and son were out of sight, our three heroes entered the rubble. “Oh no…” Tifa said, as she brings her hand to her open mouth. “No one could have survived this.” Barret informed. “It looks like ground zero down here.” “No…” Cloud said, in a defeated tone, unusual for him. His usual voice returned, “Aeris’ house!” He ran in the direction of her house. “Cloud! Look out!” Barret hollered, and dove into him, knocking him out of the way, as a building fell right where he stood. “Thanks, Barret.” “No problem. Jes watch out next time. I’m getting tired o’ savin’ yo spikey butt all da time.” “I’ll remember that.” Cloud reassured him with a smile. He looked at the fallen building. “That was close.” They arrived at Aeris’ house, and were shocked to see that despite the fact that the rest of Midgar was destroyed, the house seemed perfectly fine. Not a single grain of dirt seemed to be moved. “What the?” questioned a startled Barret. “It…it’s all here. Something’s goin’ on here.” “You’re right.” a mysterious voice calls out. “Something IS gong on.” “Who are you?!” Cloud yelled, as he simultaneously drew the Buster Sword and stepped in front of Tifa, to protect her. “What do you want?!” “Not yet. All will be revealed in time.” “What?” Cloud wondered, but the voice was gone. “What WAS that?” Tifa pondered aloud. “I have no idea.” Cloud told her. “But I doubt that’ll be the last we hear from him.” The team headed to the entrance of Sector 6. “That…was weird.” Barret stated. “Well, I guess we should go out the way we told the others to. Let’s go.” Our heroes walked down the road. As they passed the church, Cloud looked in, as he was reminded of that fateful day, when he and Aeris met. He was forced to shoot a double take, when he saw a mysterious figure standing in front of the flowerbed in the floor. “Y-you guys see that?” Cloud asked. “What the?” Barret said, flabbergasted at the sight. Cloud opened the doors, and ran in, followed by Tifa, then Barret closely behind. “Hey! What are you doing?!” Cloud yelled at the man, but the figure didn’t say a word. It didn’t even seem that he was moving. Cloud was now at the front row, with Tifa and Barret at the second. Cloud was right behind the man; the man's back was turned to them. “He asked you a question! What kinda punks you take us fo’?!” Barret asked the man, sternly. “I’ma shoot ya, you ignore me one mo’ again!” But the man didn’t even flinch. Barret raised his gun-arm. “Your weapons are of no match for me.” the mystery man spoke. “Oh yeah?” Barret threatened, and opened fire. He finally moved. He turned around, his jet-black trenchcoat trailing behind him. He raised his hand to full extent, straight out, and not a bullet touched him. Not a single one even made it to his hand. Their mouths dropped at the sight. “H-how’d he do ‘dat?” Barret wondered. “All in due time, my friend.” he said, as he stepped into a portal. So that’s what he was doing. Cloud ran up to it, chasing the man. The portal opened again, and Cloud was now nowhere to be seen. He had disappeared. Tifa, then Barret followed. The church was now empty. All that was left was the flowerbed.
